San Felipe Country Club was founded by business men William Moore Abbey, B.G. Stafford, and C.C. Belcher in July 1921. The first clubhouse was constructed in 1919 as an army officer's club and head quarters for camp Del Rio. A second clubhouse was built in 1947. In 1953 the swimming pool and tennis courts were added.

A second private organization, the Del Rio Country Club was formed in 1935 as a social club. It Coexisted with the golf club until 1966 when the two combined and formed the San Felipe Country Club.

The Newest clubhouse built in 2005. It features a Dinning Room, Meeting Room, Lounge, Fitness Center and Locker Rooms.
